Before you read a whole report on cloud market share, it might help to understand what the cloud market really is and why it matters.
First, we have to start with the definition of cloud computing. Cloud computing, often referred to as simply “the cloud,” is the delivery of on-demand computing resources – everything from applications to data centers – over the internet on a pay-for-use basis.
The cloud market is made up of the various cloud providers who provide these services.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Allows anyone to provision digital infrastructure programmatically and on-demand.
Platform as a Service (PaaS): A set of configurations, deployments and tools that allows developers to launch their applications into the cloud without having to manage the underlying infrastructure needed to run the application. Essentially, a template for deploying applications easily.
Software as a Service (SaaS): A business and deployment model that allows a provider to sell its application as a subscription service. SaaS providers offer a single product that is used by many customers and typically hosted in the cloud.
